History

Kinmen County used to belong to Tungan County of Fuchien Province. It broke away and established an autonomous government in 1915. A judicial office was established in 1945 after the war was won. In 1956, the Kinmen District Prosecutors Office was established and put under the Judicial Administration Ministry. On July 1, 1980, the unit was formally called the Fuchien Province Kinmen District Prosecutors Office, exercising jurisdiction over five towns and townships as well as Wuchio Township. Martial law was lifted in the area of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu in 1987. The government then approved the setting up of Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office. The area of jurisdiction extended to include Matsu and the four towns and townships of Lienchiang County. On December 31, 2004, the Lienchiang District Prosecutors Office was established and the areas under the jurisdiction of Matsu were placed under it. On December 22, 1989, in keeping with the amendments in the Court Organization Act, the agency changed systems, and was renamed the Fuchien Kinmen District Prosecutors Office. During this stage, the county magistrate was renamed as the Chief Prosecutor in charge of the prosecution tasks.
